[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]If you took up baking during the pandemic, you may have ordered Pyrex bakeware promoted as \u201cAmerican as apple pie.\u201d It turns out,\u00a0says the FTC<\/a>, some Pyrex glassware advertised as \u201cproudly made in the USA\u201d was actually made elsewhere. Read on to find out why that\u2019s a problem.<\/p>\n

According\u00a0to the FTC\u2019s complaint, Instant Brands, which owns Pyrex, has claimed that all Pyrex glass products are American-made. But during the pandemic,\u00a0the company sold Pyrex measuring cups on Amazon that were made in China without clarifying that production had shifted there. While there\u2019s no problem with selling foreign-made products that are clearly marked as such \u2014 advertising something as \u201cMade in the USA\u201d when it isn\u2019t is false, misleading, and a clear violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act.<\/p>\n

The agency\u2019s proposed settlement order will stop Instant Brands from making further deceptive Made in USA claims and impose a monetary judgment for its past deceptive claims.<\/p>\n
